Rules are in no particular order, just how it comes out of
my head.
This is such a universal rule, and life can be so much simpler
if it’s followed. Isn’t it an AA rule, too? I’d have to phone a friend on that…
never mind, not important.
Here’s what is important: following it!
I also branch off this one to create other rules, but that’s
another blog for another time.
You’re frustrated over traffic or getting every red light?
Irritating? Definitely.
Useful? Most assuredly, no.
You didn't get the job/ promotion/ whatever that you wanted.
Now you’re bummed about it.
Ok; give yourself a smidge of time to enjoy that bummed
moment, and move on. Why? Because energy is a precious resource and you’re
wasting it. Is that helping you get better results?
Things aren't going as planned. Again.
Deep breath, and move on.
And don't give me the response of "... but it makes me feel better to express my anger/ frustration/ disappointment". Know what will feel better still? Getting the results you want.
Spend the time stuck in traffic actually looking around you. Hey look, you just found a new place to try for dinner! Oh wow, this is a neat view of a pretty sunset. Huh, the leaves are coming in on the trees.
Why does paying attention to what's around you matter? I'll get to that later.
I promise you, working in coordination with other rules, this is such a
stress saver.
By following it:
* I’m focused on things that put my life in a positive
direction.
* I’m spending time with things I enjoy.
* I don’t add fuel to the poison that is hate (yet another
rule).
* I can accept bad news with relative ease.
* External parts of my life do not control me.
Life isn't hard- you make it that way. Guess what? You can make it easier, too. Power of perception.
