Latest Obsession

Obsessions Can be a good thing, if used properly and somewhat regulated.

Regulation #1: Forced myself to do other things- though not much- beyond my obsession this weekend.
Regulation #2: Forced myself to go to bed instead of continuing with obsession.
Regulation #3: Forced myself not to call in sick to work in order to indulge in said obsession.

It has been tough. Nearly as tough as quitting smoking (which I continue to work on). So what is the latest obsession?

My dear, beloved Gregory House has been resurrected, and his new name is Holmes.

The fun ironic tie is the writer, David Shore I believe, of House admitted his inspiration for the character partly came from Sherlock Holmes. The writers of the BBC show Sherlock has stuck true to the character- they seem near identical, complete with sidekicks being both mild and strong as Wilson was to House.

Truly impressed with how much this show has captivated my senses.

I find myself craving to write a character like Sherlock; cleaver, witty, but cynical and harsh. The harsh ones are fun because it's allows to write moments where the world gets let in; truly beautiful moments. I love diverse characters like this.

So who would I recommend this show to? I will not say everyone will adore it- though if they had an ounce of a brain they would. I love Brittish humor; it is more subtle and intelligent than American blunt obnoxiousness (in my snobbish opinion). For those who don't like to think when they watch TV, pass. The 1st episode is a bit slow, but the pace of crimes- and speed in which Sherlock speaks- really picks up as the show progresses. I'm a fast talker and I had to put on closed caption a few times; impressive even to me.

Any fans of House, murder-mystery and the like will love this show. And, of course, those who watch CBS's Elementary:

Elementary is a good show, too, and I do believe people should not really compare the two. The way they're written is like comparing apples and oranges. Both set in modern day and based off Sherlock Holmes stories, and both are similar conceptual creators. But Elementary and Sherlock are no more alike than the movie featuring Robert Downy Jr (yet another love of mine).

All good works, but each actor takes Holmes to a different place. Elementary's Sherlock is a little better at being closed off and having less cares of the world. BBC's Sherlock is a little more open to people (by 'isolated' standards) and is definitely more humorous. And the movie... Well, the movie is just Robert Downy JR at his finest- how can you really compare Mr. Downy to anyone?

What captures my heart with the BBC Sherlock, enough to say this is my favorite of them all, is how close the character is to House. I don't believe my love affair with House ever died- if anything this is proof that it hasn't. And it's a funny little world that apparently Hugh Laurie and Benedict Cumberbatch briefly worked together years earlier.

Ahh, two exceptional men. I guess not every obsession of mine for an actor comes from Australia...

Side-note: Can you tell my husband is away? Naaahhh...

Go visit Amazon Instant Video and grab Sherlock. I promise, it's worth the cost to buy; you will not be disappointing.
