Unless you never turned on a TV in the last decade, you've heard of Oxiclean. It can be used for stains in carpets, on patio furniture, or in the bathroom. It's a non-chlorine bleach alternative. Today I took the Oxiclean challenge.
I have 1 white work shirt. I don't like white because my smoking pails them too quickly. (Yes, 1 more reason to quit smoking, I know...) Today I pulled that shirt out of the wash and was aghast. I've gained pit stains on it, and white could hardly be termed its color; it was almost grey. I've bleached the shirt a few times, tried some DIY solutions online, but nothing seems to be working. Alright, let's see if the Oxiclean hype is real or another false commercial.
The top photo shows the pit stain real well, but the flash made this shirt look brighter than it really was. The flash is at work again on the bottom photo, but look- no pit stain!
All I did was mix a little Oxiclean in to a spray bottle of water. I adjusted the water bottle nozzle to stream and sprayed directly on the pit stain. I let it sit for about an hour, then washed the shirt. I used Oxiclean in the wash, too, to brighten the entire shirt.
Oxiclean, I don't love your infomercials but I do love you!
Update 5/21/14: 9 months + later, and I still regularly use oxi clean with my laundry. It a great alternative to bleach, and makes my husband's white navy uniforms look brand-spanking-new! Love this stuff!
