I hate spending money when I don't have to. I'll do a little extra work to save a few bucks. With my friend gone already I found myself lacking things to do this weekend. I decided to turn it into pampering weekend. Haircut, hair dyed, a little facial nair for that unwanted upper lip hair, and some homemade pour strips.
There are a lot of ideas for homemade pore strips. I chose one at random: egg white, toilet paper, and my make-up brush. I cracked the egg over a bowel and did the toss the yolk shell to shell trick. I wisked the yolk and dipped my brush in. I coated my nose, chin, and forehead. I applied 1 strip (cut with scissors) to the chin and forehead, I applied 2 strips to the nose (to test durability- I didn't believe 1 strip of 2 ply would cut it). I applied a 2nd coat of the egg whites on top of the toilet paper and let it dry.
The doubled up TP was unnecessary and took forever to dry. Parts of the paper were still stuck on my nose. At least I know for future. It WAS successful, though. Just like the expensive pore strips, I saw the icky blackheads on the toilet paper I pulled off. I don't think it worked as well, and I might try the honey version next time, but it does work and my skin feels happier because of it.
While waiting for the strips to dry I used this opportunity to clean my makeup brushes. For those that don't know, makeup brushes can carry bacteria, old skin, and collected dust. I typically only put makeup on right out of the shower before work. I only use eye makeup typically so I don't have much to clean and they're not that dirty. I wash them every other week instead of the recommended weekly, but if you use foundation or apply a 2nd coat frequently you should wash them weekly.
To clean the brushes, I have a cup of white vinegar (which I use for just about everything) and add an additional cup of water. I use my hands and scrub the brushes, rinse in warm water, then set them on a paper towel to air dry overnight. Obviously I'm not going out tonight. :)
So face is fresh with minimal cost a success!
